Use Credit Reports Online to Improve Your Personal Credit
At first you may be skeptical to check any credit reports online, after all
there are so many people who use the internet to scam unknowing people out
of there money. As long as you are careful of scams, checking your credit
online can actually help you, especially if you are trying to improve your
credit.
Consumers do not check their credit report usually because they are afraid
their credit score might drop, giving them even worse credit. Online credit
reports do not take any credit away from you; there is no penalty for you if
you want to check your score. Of course you can also check your credit
without lowering your score by asking the credit bureau for a free report if
you have been denied credit within the last 30 days. You need to use a local
reporting agency; most people go directly to the agency in person to request
the report and then pick it up which of course takes much longer than simply
reviewing your credit reports online.
When you review your credit report online you have the ability to see the
credit you have on your report from the privacy of your own computer at
home. When you check your credit report in front of a banker, they may try
to pressure you to get a new credit card or auto loan and may not actually
be interested in helping you improve your credit score.
You can also verify the accuracy of your credit online. The online report
will be taken from each of the three national credit bureaus. Sometimes, you
may see misinformation on your report that you will want to dispute, you
have the opportunity to contact the bureau by writing a letter explaining
exactly what needs to be corrected or disputed. The agency will investigate
your claim by contacting the creditor. The creditor must respond to the
bureau within fourteen days or else the item is deleted off your credit
report. Most creditors do not bother responding if the item is less than
$500 or older than a year, regardless to whether or not your dispute is
accurate.
It is important to check your credit report so that you can dispute bad
credit incorrectly added to your credit report and work toward improving
your credit. When bad credit is removed from your credit report, your credit
score improves. Once your credit score improves you can have your updated
credit report sent to any creditors that may have denied you credit in the
last six months.
Whether your credit is good or bad, you need to see your credit report so
that you can monitor and improve your credit and stay on top of any mistakes
that could have been made. Viewing credit reports online is the quickest and
simplest means to stay in control of your credit score.
